Now I see you, now I don't

Happy Birthday Sally! (lots of April birthdays in this family)

Another busy day.  We are working on some projects Caroline would like to get done before they move back to the states, so today we are looking for material again, which we found at a wonderful local fabric shop.  It reminded me a lot of the school house in Floyd, but not nearly as big.  I tried to find some vintage looking material for the RV, but alas, nothing really stood out to me.

Next we went to a local hardware/garden store where we looked at paint and entertained ourselves trying to read the labels which of course were in German.  Caroline and Booker are both pretty good at speaking and understanding German, but we had no clue about most of these words.  We decided to go home and look up the words we needed to know on Google.  Not sure what we would have done before that wonderful option....

I, of course, had to look around the store and see what I could find that was different or unique to me, and I found some great finds in the garden section!  I found a pair of leather work gloves that are made for women, so they fit! as opposed to those huge light blue and gray ones that you find everywhere and are made for the Hulk.... I plan to put them in the RV.

I also found some clamp thingies for tomato plants, which I have seen in the states but they were much more expensive, and some clampy things for me to attach to the inside wall of the closet in the RV that will hold our flashlights where we need them to be.  I think Charlie will like the purchases.

Speaking of Charlie,  I cannot wait to see what he has done in the RV by the time I get home, he has been building shelves, fixing somethings that were not quite right, and who knows what else!  It should be ready to head out by the time I get home! : )  but I digress....

One thing I have noticed while over here is that overall most things in Germany are much cheaper than in the States.  Of course there is also a pretty good exchange rate going for the dollar right now, so that helps, but I have been pleasantly surprised at the prices of everything from food, water, beer, and household items.

Later  in the day we met Lauren for coffee and cake - It was a beautiful day and we sat outside and just enjoyed ourselves.  You gotta love a country that believes people should stop and eat cake and drink coffee in the afternoon.

The next stop before home was a local pharmacy - another observation, customer service here is usually amazingly helpful and pleasant.  Not that I expected it to be otherwise, but everyone is smiling and asking if they can help and willing to speak English when they realize I cannot speak German - which happens quite quickly when they ask me something and I just politely look confused.  : )

And then..... the best part of the day - Booker told Caroline to bring me out to the base around 10:00 p.m. that he had a surprise for us.  Caroline knew what it was, but I had NO idea.  When we got there I found out that he was going to let us look through the night goggles he uses to fly!!!! He did not know this of course, but I have been wanting to try out night vision glasses FOREVER!

It was so much fun!  And amazing!  It had turned into a rather cloudy night, but with the glasses on you could see so many stars it looked like there was glitter in the sky.  Take them off, they were gone, put them on, there they were!  Then he took a special flashlight and moved it around toward the ground. Glasses on - light!  Glasses off, nothing.

Same thing with the headlights on the truck/jeepy thing.  Lights on, and clear as day with glasses on, no light when glasses off.  They are magic!

I think I need to get a pair to wear when Charlie and I are walking through the woods before dawn, looking for a place to see turkey and deer.  Meg, if you are reading this, Joe would LOVE them too!  Imagine what you could see on your land?   If any of you have never tried them, go get some now and try them out - don't wait - it is too much fun to put it off!

Thank you -Thank you -Thank you -Thank you Booker!!!!!
